Jesuit Refugee Service Shelter Project
This new partnership between the Sisters of Mercy Parramatta, Jesuit Refugee Service,
the Sisters of Charity, the Good Samaritan Sisters and the Holy Spirit Sisters has provided a Western Sydney base for the Shelter Project which has been providing much needed support, advocacy and practical
help to Asylum Seekers living in the Greater Sydney area since 2007.
The Shelter Project was establish to assist the many Asylum Seekers living in the community, who were at risk of financial destitution and homelessness.
From December, 2014, a cottage on the grounds of the Sisters of Mercy Parramatta Congregation Centre on Victoria Rd, Parramatta has been made available
to The Shelter Project to establish a presence in Western Sydney, where a significant number of Refugees and Asylum Seekers are living.
The Centre, named Arupe Place, which opened to clients on January 28th, 2015, operates Monday to Thursday 10am - 4.00pm,
with Friday's reserved for free
Legal Services provided by RACS.
The Centre provides a range of services including:
- Casework services
- General Information and Referrals
- Advocacy Support
- Home visiting Services
- Limited Financial and Material Assistance
- Social Support Activities
- Free Legal Services (Provided by RACS- Fridays)
